Ice Breaker Festival
February 1 - February 3Free
Downtown South Haven will break the winter spell on February 1-3, 2019. There will be ice sculptures, chili tasting, food and drink specials featured in the pub slide, the cardboard sled race, ice skating, curling, horse-drawn wagon rides, a snowsuit fashion contest, the ‘Break the Ice 5k,’ and the annual fling a frozen fish contest. Did we mention Shopping at South Haven’s unique stores?
- The annual cardboard sled competition will be held at the Coast Guard Hill on Saturday afternoon (Feb 2). Bring your cardboard creation and slide down the hill! Your cardboard sled can advertise your business, pay tribute to your favorite fictional (or real) character, or just be your vision of a cool design! There’s no fee to enter, and anyone can participate- individually or as a team. You’ll have a chance to show off your sled before taking it for a ride down the hill to glory! This is a family-friendly event, so sled designs must be appropriate for kids. Compete for prizes in several categories and age groups. Even if you don’t compete, come out to watch the fun- this is an event you don’t want to miss!
- Back by popular demand will be the frozen fish fling! Fling a frozen fish the farthest and win cash! Top 3 flings win trophies and unique bragging rights! YES, we will be using real frozen fish for this event (not to worry, we are not wasting food- we have sourced non-edible sucker fish and will also be re-purposing them after the event). Kids can fling a fish too, but they’ll get to throw the rubber ones! Adults pay $5 per fling, kids pay $1. The farthest adult fling wins 1/2 the cash! All kids get a prize. This event is only 1 hour – from 2-3pm on Saturday, February 2 near the South Marina. It’s sure to be fun to watch and even more fun to fling! Don’t miss it!
